Cantiones sacrae per tempus totius anni composed by Adam Vaclav Otradovic Michna. For satb vocal ensemble. This edition. Complete edition. Adam Vaclav Michna. Compositiones 5. Czech title. Svatoro ni muzika. Classical. Complete edition, Score. Language. Latin, Text Language. Czech. German. English. Published by Editio Baerenreiter Praha. PA.H7824. ISBN 9790260101050. With Language. Latin, Text Language. Czech. German. English. Classical. 31 x 23.5 cm inches. This is the fifth volume of the Complete Critical Edition of works by the greatest Czech composer of the 17th century, Adam Michna of Otradovice. It contains 118 four-part songs to seasons and feasts of the liturgical year. Like many other works by Michna, this hymn book was printed in Prague by Jesuits with whom the composer studied and kept good relationship throughout his life. Unlike his settings of Latin liturgical texts, this collection of Czech songs has a purely homophonic texture and a strong meter. Individual compositions can be also played by amateurs and some of them have remained to form a firm part of the Czech congregational repertoire. It is possible to arrange this exceptionally melodic songs as vocal and instrumental or just instrumental pieces. They can sound really well on period instruments played by ensembles specialized on Early music. Together with Czech texts of the songs, German and English summaries of the individual pieces are provided. Edited by Jiri Sehnal and Frantisek Maly, revision of texts by Libor Stukavec.
