He went to Vienna in 1807, where he worked as a piano teacher, coach, and choir music master an d from 1844 on as cathedral music master of St. Stephan's cathedral. In addition to this, he was also musical director and later composer for the Theater in der Josephstadt. His work as a teacher culminated in the organ and figured bass for trainee teache rs, and his students included no less a figure than Johann Strauss.
