Ferdinand Ries. baptized in Bonn, Germany, on November 28th, 1784. was a friend and pupil of Ludwig van Beethoven. he also worked for him as secretary and copyist. In 1838 he published a collection of reminiscences of his friend and teacher, co-written with Franz Wegeler. As a composer, his works include eight symphonies, a violin concerto, nine piano concerti, and numerous other works in many genres, including twenty-six string quartets.
